Carl Jardevall's rally career started in his home country of Sweden during the winter of 1975, behind the wheel of a stock SAAB 96. Some friends that were spectating at Carl's debut event commented that Carl drove slower than the sweep vehicle that followed the novice drivers through the course. The sweep vehicle was a Mercedes diesel! In his early rally career Carl did not have the financial resources to contest many events, so opportunities to drive were few and far between.
1976 - "This is one of the first events I ran in Sweden. We were in Class C which would be the same as Seed 5.
"As you can tell from the photo the body is beaten up a bit. I was never a good body man and it is the same to this day. They used to call me 'Raisin Quist' due to the wrinkled fenders and roof.
"We finished this rally, which was fortunate because we had driven to the event and had no extra tires."
1976 - "This event took place in the Spring. We had just put new roof, fenders, hood and doors on the SAAB.
"On the first stage, a right-hander down hill came up too fast and we ended up upside down again!"
"This is the result of our stage one rollover. That was the last event with that Saab. I think the car ended up in a landfill."
1976 - "This SAAB I got from a friend of mine. We ran it in a Stock class to start with. The car had a previous history as a rally car. I believe we were up to the B group of seeding by this time."
